The Indus Valley people made many great achievements and were very advanced for the time period. We have evidence that they used flood plain agriculture but we have no direct evidence for the construction of massive canals. We do know that they created poetry, fine ceramics, tools, agate and onyx beads, and gold. Archaeological evidence shows that the merchants transported goods overland, in carts driven by animals, and along rives, in flat-bottomed boats. The Indus valley civilization relied on the river for many reasons. One of the biggest reasons they relied on he river was for drinking. They also used it for a big part of their transportation. Cities were always built around rivers so they would always have close access of bodies of water. They had an extremely developed trading system. An Indus valley house was always very cool inside thanks to the thick walls. Many homes only had one room, but some had many rooms that were built around a central courtyard in the home. some homes even had multiple stories. all that is left today is the floors of these homes but we can tell that the walls were covered in mud plaster and it is unclear if they would paint the walls. we think most of these homes did not have windows but some might have had window like openings that were covered with wooden shudders.
